The Corning Museum of Glass holds the world's largest collection of glass, spanning 3,500 years from ancient Egyptian vessels to room-scale contemporary installations. Its Contemporary Art and Design Wing, opened in 2015, is among the largest spaces built specifically for exhibiting glass art. Live Hot Glass Demonstrations run throughout the day, with narrators explaining each move as gaffers gather and shape molten glass; the Innovation Center traces glass in optics, communications and consumer technology. Visitors can make their own glass object at The Studio, browse the Rakow Research Library, and eat on site. Admission covers two consecutive days and children 17 and under enter free. The museum sits in Corning's Gaffer District near the Rockwell Museum, with Finger Lakes wineries and Watkins Glen State Park within an hour's drive.
