Rocking Horse Ranch Resort occupies more than 500 acres of rolling Hudson Valley countryside outside Highland in Ulster County, roughly 90 minutes north of New York City. Family-run for decades, the all-inclusive resort pairs a genuine trail-riding operation with full resort infrastructure, a rare combination among Eastern dude ranches. Its stable keeps a string of about 119 horses and runs year-round guided rides graded from walk-only outings through advanced walk-trot-canter trips, plus junior wrangler pony rides and horsemanship demonstrations.

Away from the barn there is the Big Splash indoor water park, Eldorado hot springs pools, a private lake for kayaking, canoes, paddle boats and banana-boat rides, a winter tubing hill, nightly live entertainment and an exotic wildlife exhibit. New Paltz, the Shawangunk Ridge, the Shawangunk Wine Trail and the Walkway Over the Hudson are short drives away. Pets are not permitted; ADA service dogs excepted.
